Nedim

Network for Digital Migration Advice

A common approach and fourteen participating federal states: in a nutshell that is “Nedim” (Turkish for friend, confidant). The pilot project “Nedim – Network for Digital Migration Advice” aims to make migration advisory structures in Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hessen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia more familiar with third-country nationals‘ needs for digital information and advice.

In concrete terms, this means reaching third-country nationals through outreach counselling via social media (‚digital streetwork‘) and supporting their social integration by providing information on local and regional integration services. The expertise gained in the project will be transferred to migration advisory centres, migrant organizations and other local actors funded by the federal and state governments through trainings, handouts, networking opportunities and individual consultation. These stakeholders will be supported in implementing their own digital advisory approaches and assisted in dealing with the increasing use of AI applications.

Digital Streetwork is available in nine languages: Arabic, English, French, Pashto, Persian, Russian, Turkish, Ukrainian and German – the most common languages spoken by third-country nationals. The focus is on societal integration and active participation in economic, social, cultural, and political life. This includes language learning and integration services, equal treatment, healthcare and support services, education-related matters, as well as issues specifically affecting women, young people, and families.

Additionally, cooperation and networking at the municipal level should be consistently encouraged, with efforts to leverage synergies between federal states, promote mutual learning, and avoid redundant structures. This approach aims to create a more effective and sustainable information and support system for immigrants from third countries.
